Exciting Career Opportunities Join Rwanda Development Board's SPIU Engineering Team

The Rwanda Development Board (RDB) is actively seeking experienced engineering professionals to join its Single Project Implementation Unit (SPIU). About the Opportunity

RDB's SPIU plays a critical role in coordinating and managing externally funded projects that drive Rwanda's development agenda. As a senior engineer within this unit, you'll be at the forefront of ensuring that major construction and infrastructure projects meet the highest international standards while aligning with national priorities.

Available Positions

RDB is currently recruiting for four senior engineering roles, with two positions available for each:

1. Senior Civil Engineer

This role is ideal for construction professionals with a strong track record in managing large-scale building and infrastructure projects. You'll oversee project planning, design review, quality control, and stakeholder coordination while ensuring compliance with national and international engineering standards.

Key Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (7+ years experience) or Master's degree (5+ years experience)
  • Proven experience in at least five civil engineering projects
  • Experience with donor-funded projects
  • Valid professional engineering license from a recognized organization
  • Proficiency in Computer-Aided Design applications

2. Senior Mechanical Engineer

The mechanical engineer will be responsible for designing, installing, and maintaining critical building systems including HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and building automation systems across RDB construction projects.

Key Requirements:

  • Degree in Mechanical or Electro-mechanical Engineering
  • 7+ years experience (Bachelor's) or 5+ years (Master's)
  • Registration with the Institute of Engineers Rwanda (IER) with valid license
  • Experience in MEP engineering practices and green building principles
  • Background in at least five MEP design or execution projects

3. Senior Electrical Engineer

This position focuses on ensuring all electrical systems are safe, efficient, and compliant with relevant codes. The role spans from initial design and cost estimation to installation oversight, troubleshooting, and final testing.

Key Requirements:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 7+ years experience (Bachelor's) or 5+ years (Master's)
  • Valid IER registration and RURA electrical installation permit (Class B)
  • Expertise in electrical systems design for construction projects
  • Knowledge of green building electrical systems

4. Senior Quantity Surveyor

The quantity surveyor manages all financial and contractual aspects of construction projects, ensuring they stay within budget while meeting quality and legal standards.

Key Requirements:

  • BSc in Quantity Surveying or Master's in Construction Management
  • 7+ years experience (Bachelor's) or 5+ years (Master's)
  • Proven expertise in construction cost estimation and control
  • Active membership in the Association of Quantity Surveyors in Rwanda
  • Experience with at least five major construction or infrastructure projects

What You'll Do

Across all positions, successful candidates will:

  • Collaborate with contractors, supervisors, and multidisciplinary teams
  • Review and approve construction documentation and designs
  • Monitor project progress and ensure milestone achievements
  • Conduct quality control and regulatory compliance reviews
  • Manage commercial and contractual risks
  • Prepare progress reports for stakeholders
  • Support field inspections and authority approvals
  • Ensure health and safety standards throughout project stages
