About the Role

The Mining Electrician position offers a unique opportunity to work in both underground and surface mining operations, where you'll play a critical role in maintaining the electrical infrastructure that keeps mining operations running safely and efficiently. Reporting directly to the Electrical Supervisor, you'll be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems across the entire mining site.

Key Responsibilities

Your day-to-day duties will include:

  • Installing and maintaining electrical control systems, wiring, and lighting in both underground and surface areas

  • Troubleshooting and repairing electrical issues to minimize operational downtime
  • Ensuring all work complies with safety standards and industry regulations
  • Documenting maintenance activities and reporting potential hazards
  • Providing technical support and training to junior team members
  • Responding to electrical emergencies to ensure continuous operations

Who Should Apply?

The ideal candidate will possess:

Education & Certification:

  • TVET Certificate III in Electrical Technology or equivalent
  • Certification in High Voltage (HV) and Low Voltage (LV) systems (preferred)
  • Additional safety certifications (advantageous)

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience as an electrician
  • Experience in mining environments is highly valued
  • Background in underground electrical systems, high-voltage distribution, and automated control systems

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing LV and HV electrical systems
  • Strong knowledge of safety protocols for hazardous environments
  • Ability to interpret electrical blueprints and technical drawings

Personal Attributes:

  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and capacity to work under pressure
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Meticulous attention to detail and unwavering commitment to safety
