Exciting Internship Opportunity: Join Save the Children's Zero OOSC Project in Rwanda.

Are you passionate about making a tangible difference in children's lives? Save the Children is seeking a motivated Project Intern to support their Zero Out-of-School Children (OOSC) initiative in Rwanda, a role that offers hands-on experience in international development while contributing to one of the most critical educational challenges of our time.

About the Organization

Save the Children operates in over 100 countries with approximately 25,000 employees worldwide, working tirelessly to ensure every child has access to healthcare, education, and protection. The organization has set ambitious goals for 2030, including eliminating preventable child deaths, ensuring quality basic education for all children, and ending violence against children.

The Role: What You'll Do

This internship offers a comprehensive introduction to project management and international development work. Under the guidance of the Project Manager, interns will gain exposure to multiple aspects of project operations, including:

Data Management and Documentation: You'll support critical data entry processes using ODK (Open Data Kit), ensuring accuracy in project records. This includes digitizing documents through scanning and maintaining organized filing systems skills that are fundamental to modern project management.

Operational Support: The role involves practical responsibilities such as tracking participant attendance at workshops and meetings, verifying payment records, and coordinating meeting space logistics. These tasks provide insight into the operational complexities of running field-based development projects.

Field Implementation: Interns will assist in preparing logistics for field activities, offering a ground-level view of how international development projects are implemented in local communities. You'll also help verify materials from suppliers, ensuring quality standards are met.

Active Participation: Beyond administrative support, interns will attend and contribute to project meetings, gaining exposure to strategic discussions and decision-making processes.

What Makes This Opportunity Unique

This isn't a typical internship where you'll be relegated to the sidelines. Save the Children's approach emphasizes meaningful involvement across all project departments, providing interns with a holistic understanding of how educational interventions work in practice.

The Zero OOSC project specifically addresses one of the most persistent challenges in global education reaching children who are currently out of school. Through this internship, you'll contribute directly to efforts that can transform educational outcomes for vulnerable children in Rwanda.

The Ideal Candidate

Save the Children seeks individuals who embody their core values in practice. Beyond technical skills, the organization prioritizes:

Accountability and Ambition: You should be someone who takes ownership of your work, manages resources efficiently, and sets ambitious goals for personal development. The role requires self-motivation and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

Collaboration and Cultural Sensitivity: Given the cross-cultural nature of international development work, you'll need to be approachable, an effective listener, and capable of building relationships with diverse stakeholders. Valuing different perspectives isn't optional it's essential.

Creativity and Integrity: The organization encourages innovative solutions while maintaining the highest ethical standards. Honesty, transparency, and a genuine commitment to Save the Children's mission are fundamental requirements.

Important Considerations

This position carries Level 3 Child Safeguarding responsibilities, meaning you'll have regular contact with children and young people. Save the Children maintains rigorous safeguarding standards, reflecting its unwavering commitment to child protection.

The organization also maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward fraud and corruption. It's worth noting that Save the Children never charges fees at any stage of the recruitment process any request for payment should be reported immediately.

Why This Matters

Education is one of the most powerful tools for breaking cycles of poverty and creating opportunities for future generations. By working on the Zero OOSC project, you'll be part of an effort to ensure that no child is left behind due to a lack of access to education.

The skills you'll develop, including project coordination, data management, stakeholder engagement, and cross-cultural communication, are highly transferable and valued across the development sector and beyond.
