The Role: Pumping Station Operator

What You'll Be Doing

As a Pumping Station Operator at GAH, you'll be the backbone of our irrigation infrastructure. Your daily responsibilities will include:

Operating and monitoring pumps, valves, and electrical control panels to maintain consistent water supply to our farming operations. You'll manage the startup, shutdown, and adjustment of pumping systems according to irrigation schedules ensuring that every drop of water reaches farmers when they need it most.

You'll be the organization's eyes and ears, recording critical operating parameters such as flow rates, pressure levels, voltage, and current in daily logs. Your vigilance matters: detecting leaks, unusual noises, overheating, or power fluctuations early means the difference between smooth operations and costly downtime.

The role extends beyond basic operation. You'll maintain the physical and operational environment keeping pump units, control rooms, and valve chambers clean, safe, and inspection-ready. You'll work alongside our maintenance technicians, assisting with repairs and troubleshooting while participating in preventive maintenance schedules. Additionally, you'll contribute to our energy efficiency goals by monitoring power and water consumption.

Who We're Looking For

Essential Qualifications:

You must hold a Technical Diploma (A2) or Advanced Diploma (A1) in Electricity, Electromechanics, or a closely related field. Real-world experience is crucial we require a minimum of three years operating water pumps, irrigation systems, or industrial utilities.

Technical competency is paramount. You should be comfortable interpreting gauges, meters, and basic engineering drawings. Knowledge of electrical controls, motor protection, and Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) operation is a significant advantage.

Personal Attributes:

We need someone who is physically fit and genuinely willing to embrace shift work, weekend duties, and outdoor field assignments. A valid driving license (Category A) is valued and would strengthen your application.

This is an active field-based position. You'll work rotational shifts (day and night), including standby duties during peak irrigation seasons.
